The Ferrari Enzo The Ferrari Enzo was named after the Ferrari companies founder Enzo Ferrari. Invitations were sent out to existing customers mainly those that had previously brought the Ferrari F40 and F50, and all initial 349 Ferrari Enzo”s were pre-sold this way.
The Ferrari Enzo was first limited to a production run of 349 cars, but after numerous requests from customers that missed out this was later increased by 50 to a run of 399 cars. Then on November 8th 2004 Ferrari announced it would build one more Ferrari Enzo thus bringing the total to an even 400.This 400th Ferrari Enzo was presented to Pope John Paul II who then later auctioned it to benefit the 2004 tsunami survivors for $1,274,229 US, almost twice the original selling price.
The Ferrari Enzo was built in 2003 using technology taken directly from Formula One, which gave the
Ferrari Enzo such things as a carbon fibre body, F1 style sequential shift and carbon ceramic brakes. Also featured were active aerodynamics, after a down force of 775kgs is achieved at 300km/h the computer takes over to maintain that down force.
The V12 engine in the Ferrari Enzo was the first of a new generation for Ferrari, the engine is a 65 degree V12 with 4 valves per cylinder, dual overhead cams and variable valve timing, Bosch ME7 fuel injection and is naturally aspirated, all that
produces 485kw (651hp) at 7800rpm with a redline at 8200rpm.The Ferrari Enzo uses paddles to change gears in the semi-auto transmission with lights on the steering wheel telling you when to change, other features are 4 wheel independent suspension which is adjustable from within the cabin plus 19 inch wheels with massive 15 inch brakes. Performance wise the Ferrari Enzo can reach 60mph in 3.14 secs and 100mph (161kmh) in 6.6secs, with a standing ¼ mile covered in the low 11secs and an estimated top speed of 217+mph (350kmh).
